Research Degrees
The Master of Computing by research requires at least one year of full-time
study. Some candidates may be required to undertake a Masters preliminary
program of up to one year's duration, depending on their background.
Part-time candidature may be approved in some circumstances. The degree
is completed via a supervised research program, leading to a Masters thesis.
Masters students are required to participate in research seminars.
The thesis may be combined with some coursework. Students undertaking
a coursework component may be required to attend some lectures and research
seminars at the Caulfield or Clayton campuses.
The research degree of Doctor of Philosophy is common to all faculties
of the University, and is administered by the PhD and Scholarships Committee.
The PhD is awarded for a thesis, which is judged to be a significant contribution
to knowledge or understanding of the field of study. It is usually undertaken
on a full time basis over three or four years, with a reduction in this
time in the case of a candidate transferring from a Master's program in
the same field. PhD may also undertaken part-time or by the external mode
of study.
Candidates who are interested in doing higher degrees in any area outlined
in GSCIT Research Interests are encouraged to
apply for scholarships.
The University has a range of scholarships available to qualified candidates.
They include the Australian Postgraduate Award, Monash Graduate Scholarship,
Information Technology Scholarship, International Postgraduate Research
Scholarship, and Information Technology Partial Tuition Scholarship. For
