About our School

The Gippsland School of Computing and Information Technology is located on the Gippsland Campus of Monash University in the picturesque Gippsland Region of Victoria, Australia.

The Gippsland campus has excellent teaching facilities and computing laboratories. The school is housed in a modern new building. The campus is spacious and uncrowded because many of its students study in the off-campus mode. As a result the on-campus students at Gippsland have the advantage of a high staff to student ratio, with small class sizes and accessible lecturers and tutors.

The mission of the Gippsland School of Computing and Information Technology is to generate, evaluate and transmit knowledge through teaching, research and professional activity within its fields of expertise, for the benefit of both the region served by the Gippsland campus, and the wider national and international community.

The School carries out teaching and research with a primary focus on the use and application of information technology in commerce and industry. It offers two undergraduate courses, namely the Bachelor of Information Technology degree (including an Honours year), two double degrees in Bachelor of Business/Bachelor of Information Technology or Bachelor of Arts (Communications)/Bachelor of Information Technology as well as a Graduate Certificate and two Graduate Diploma courses.Two research degrees, the PhD and Master of Computing, are also offered.

In the area of teaching the School makes extensive use of off-campus delivery modes. Apart from the research degrees, all of its courses are available by Off-campus learning, and it also offers a number of individual units through the Open Learning Agency of Australia. In addition, the School delivers courses and units by off-campus mode in Singapore and Hong Kong. A number of staff have particular interests in the use of information technology to support teaching and learning, with a focus on techniques appropriate to the distance learning modes.
