of Computing
This double degree course caters for the demand within the information
technology industry for people with both professional computing and professional
communication skills. There is also a demand for graduates with computing
expertise in a range of areas that require professional communication
skills, including journalism and media-related occupations, including
multimedia development.
The course is directed towards those intending students who have relevant
career goals and who combine ability with high motivation. Potential employers
include mainstream and alternative media organisations and a wide variety
of public and private organisations.
Course Structure
Students in the double degree course complete three unit sequences in
system development, communication and in arts. The program is four years
duration if taken full-time and eight years duration if taken part-time
or by off-campus distributed learning.
This degree is designed to satisfy the community and professional needs
for graduates who have not only undertaken a major in communications theory
in combination with studies in humanities, but who will have detailed
knowledge of an area of computer based information systems and software
systems.
For the Bachelor of Arts (Communication)/Bachelor of Computing, students
complete three sequences of units to gain at least 192 points but no more
than 206 points;
an eighth unit (58 points) Communication sequence a six unit (40 points)

Arts Minor Sequence
The Art minor can be chosen from history-politics, Indonesian, sociology,
writing, gender studies, journalism, Australian indiginous, phychology

Multimedia Technology Sequence
The Bachelor of Computing with a major in Multimedia Technology requires
students to complete units with a total credit value of 144 points, comprised
with 96 points of compulsory units and 48 points of elective units. All
units have a credit value of 6 points except, GCO3700, which is worth
12 points.

Admission Requirements
Normal Monash entry requirements of VCE or equivalent apply with a grade
average of at least C in English, and at least a D in an area of Mathematics
at year 12 level. Applications are welcomed from those applying under
the Alternative Category Entry who have completed or intend to complete
a Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT). International students are
accepted on a full-fee paying basis, at an annual rate of $16,280 per
year for a full-time load (subject to determination by the Vice-Chancellor).
Special Requirements
Work Load
All applicants should be willing to undertake a normal initial workload
of at least 24 points a year by off-campus distributed learning. Off-campus
students should note that this may have implications regarding eligibility
for AUSTUDY or similar schemes. In later years of the course the normal
workload will be 32 points per year, but there is scope to vary this under
some circumstances.
